4,500 wheat bags destroyed in fire

At least 4,500 bags of wheat destroyed in a fire that broke out at a purchase centre at Ranjitpur village here on Sunday afternoon.

As many as 22 intact bales of jute bags, four bikes and two power generators of arhtiyas were also destroyed. The exact quantity and amount of the loss is yet to be assessed.

Surender Singh, district manager of HAFED, said the cause behind the fire incident was still unknown. Initially, it broke out in the hut of a labourer. Later, it spread to the purchase centre.

Mohan Lal, president of the Arhtiyas’ Association, has sought a compensation from the government. — TNS
