Udit Kamboj, a young tennis player from Yamunanagar, has brought pride to the city by earning his first-ever ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) point in the Men’s $25,000 ATP Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda (Africa).

Udit has become the first player from Yamunanagar to achieve the milestone. A felicitation ceremony was held recently at Lotus Tennis Academy, Jagadhri, to honour Kamboj for his feat. Players, coaches and parents present at the event congratulated him, extending their best wishes for his upcoming matches.

Entering the main draw as a qualifier, Udit delivered an outstanding performance by defeating a higher-ranked and experienced Swiss player, Loren Ernè, with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the pre-quarter finals.

Kamboj is currently training under coaches Vishal Sharma and Gagandeep at the Lotus Tennis Academy, Sector-18, in Jagadhri.

Jagadhri-Yamunanagar Tennis Association (JYTA) vice-president Sumeet Gupta extended his congratulations to Kamboj. “Udit has made our district proud. JYTA has always supported his tennis journey and will continue to provide every possible assistance in the future,” Gupta said.

Kamboj’s coaches praised his hard work and dedication.

“Udit has always stayed focused on his goal, even in challenging situations. His fitness, mental toughness and hunger to win will take him to greater heights,” said Sharma.

Gagandeep said: “It is a proud moment for us that Udit is the first player from Yamunanagar to earn an ATP point, and secure a place in international rankings. His success will serve as an inspiration for the next generation of players.”
