The 28th mega blood donation fair was organised at Seth Jai Prakash Mukand Lal Institute of Engineering and Technical Education (JMIT), Radaur, on Wednesday. Institute Director Dr Sanjeev Kumar Garg said 1,087 units of blood were collected at the event.
He said the institute contributed 831 units at the 27th fair last year. Teams from AIIMS, New Delhi; PGI-Chandigarh; and Trauma Centre–Yamunanagar collected blood during the drive.
“Since 1997, the institute has been organising blood donation fairs and has so far collected over 13,000 units of blood,” Dr Sanjeev said. He added Mukand Institute organises more than 14 fairs annually and has donated over 60,000 units to date. “JMIT is already known for its social work and blood donation is a part of this initiative,” he said.
Institute Director Dr SK Garg said, in line with its focus on energy conservation and innovation, the institute had installed a 320-kW solar power plant, which was significantly helping reduce energy use.
“For environmental protection, biogas plants, solar water heaters, rainwater harvesters and sewage treatment plants have been installed,” Dr Garg said. He added the organisation’s Chairman, Ashok Kumar, was working under the policy of “Save Blue, Donate Red, Spread Green” and activities continued to be undertaken in line with this vision.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Garg welcomed the guests, including chairman of Mukand Educational Institutions, Ashok Kumar; members of the management committee Pt Gyan Prakash Sharma and Pramod Bansal; and other dignitaries.
The chairman, Ashok Kumar, and the general secretary, Dr Ramesh Kumar, congratulated the organisers on the successful inauguration of the fair and praised the students’ contribution to social work.
Students marked the occasion with poster-making, slogan writing, debates, quizzes, games, street plays, awareness rallies and other competitions to promote blood donation. Various student clubs also participated in a flag march encouraging the campus community to donate blood, while NSS cadets held an awareness rally in a nearby village.
