Yamunanagar-Jathlana-Karnal road construction in full swing, completion expected by March
The long-awaited construction of the Yamunanagar-Jathlana-Karnal road is progressing rapidly, bringing hope for major relief to commuters. This road, one of the busiest routes in the district, had been in a dilapidated state for over a year, causing severe inconvenience and accidents.
Cost of the project: ₹21 crore
Construction material: Pavement quality concrete, designed to withstand heavy mining traffic from the Jathlana area
Expected completion: Last week of March 2025
The 20-km stretch of the road, falling under Yamunanagar district, had developed large potholes, making travel extremely difficult. Following the Haryana Assembly elections in October 2024, Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana fulfilled his electoral promise by inaugurating the construction work in November 2024.
"After the construction of this road, people of this area and surrounding regions will benefit from better road connectivity. The Haryana Government is focusing on strengthening the state's road network," said Minister Shyam Singh Rana.
Residents of the area have expressed relief and satisfaction over the ongoing construction work.
Anil Kaushik, a resident of Majri Lal Chhappar village, said: "For over a year, big potholes had developed on this road, making commuting a nightmare. Accidents were frequent and it was difficult to drive on this stretch. With the new construction, people will finally get relief."
Similarly, Bhushan Kumar from Model Town village emphasised the importance of the project and said, "This 20-km stretch, popularly known as Shadipur-Khajuri road, serves thousands of commuters daily. Once completed, traffic movement will streamline, reducing congestion and accidents."
According to Naveen Khatri, Executive Engineer (PWD - B&R), Yamunanagar district, the construction work on the Shadipur to Gumthala Rao stretch is progressing efficiently.
"This is one of the major projects initiated within the first 100 days of the new government. We are hopeful that the road construction will be completed by March-end, providing smooth connectivity for the region," said XEN Naveen Khatri.
