Young athletes from Sirsa shine in state-level competitions
Now, schools actively support balanced approach to academics, athletics
Sirsa district is emerging as hubs of young sporting talent, with athletes earning medals and recognition at various state-level events.
In handball, Sahil from Sirsa secured a bronze medal at the 56th Haryana School State Championship. Known for his leadership and dedication, Sahil began playing handball in 2021 and has since captained his team in four block-level tournaments under the guidance of coach Anil Gupta. “Balancing studies and sports is challenging,” he said, “but with determination and family support, I’ve managed to pursue both.” Sahil now aims to compete at higher levels and bring more laurels to his district.
In athletics, Vikram from Rania, Sirsa, impressed with a silver medal in the 200-metre race at the 58th Haryana State School Games. Competing against tough contenders, he stood out for his speed and endurance. Vikram credited his success to consistent training and mentorship.
In para sports, Sulochana Devi from Sanskar Yoga Kendra Trust, Kagadana in Sirsa, won a silver medal at the National Para Yoga Championship 2025-26. She had topped the state-level trials held at Muskan Garden, Palwal, where para-athletes from across Haryana participated. The final round took place at the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH, in New Delhi on September 26–27, where Sulochana showcased her skill and brought pride to Haryana.
Women athletes also made their mark. Shah Satnam Ji Girls College, Sirsa, clinched first place in an inter-college yoga competition hosted by Chaudhary Devi Lal University. The participants performed challenging yoga postures with precision, reflecting months of rigorous training.
Local sports officials say the recent success is a sign that Sirsa and Fatehabad are nurturing a new generation of talent. “Sports are not just about winning medals; they build discipline, teamwork, and good health,” said Neelam, a yoga coach. “Our youth are showing tremendous potential.”
She added that these achievements had inspired more students to take up sports, with families and schools now actively supporting a balanced approach to academics and athletics.
