Young legal talent takes centre stage at ‘Neophyte’

The “Neophyte 3.0” moot court competition, organised by the Moot Court Society of Dr BR Ambedkar National Law University, commenced under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr) Devinder Singh. The inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp by the esteemed guests.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of moot court activities as a vital practical component of legal education. It encouraged students to participate in such academic exercises actively. The guests were felicitated with mementos presented by the Vice-Chancellor.

Following the vote of thanks, the competition was formally inaugurated with the striking of the gavel by Jasmine Sethi, president, Moot Court Society. Subsequently, the Draw of Lots and exchange of memorials were conducted. During the preliminary stages, eight teams qualified for the quarterfinal rounds, from which the top four teams progressed to the semifinals, adjudicated by the faculty members.

The final round was contested between team Code 12 and team Code 44. The prestigious panel of judges included Dr Vageshwari Deswal, University of Delhi; Advocate Manreet Kaur, Supreme Court of India; and Advocate-on-Record Deeplaxmi S Matwankar, Supreme Court of India. Team Code 12 (Priyanshi Jha and Taniska Goel) emerged as the winners, while team Code 44 (Priyanshi Bhardwaj and Avni Jain) secured the runner-up position.

The Best Speaker award was conferred upon Irtiqa Rahman and the Best Memorial award was presented to team Code 38 (Tanya and Samiksha) by the Vice-Chancellor and the distinguished guests.

Registrar, Professor (Dr) Ashutosh Mishra, remarked that such competitions significantly enhance students’ analytical reasoning, argumentative skills and legal acumen, providing them with real-courtroom exposure.

Dr Sukhwinder Singh, Convener, Moot Court Society, extended heartfelt gratitude to all invited guests and participating students. The event was attended by OSD to the Vice-Chancellor, Lalit Kumar; Private Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor, Rajesh Kumar; faculty members; and a large number of students.
