Alerting the youth about the ill-effects of social media, the Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Bansi Lal University (CBLU) Bhiwani, Prof Deepti Dharmani, said though modern technology and social media had provided a global platform, it had also created confusion and a sense of illusion among the young minds.
He was addressing a seminar organised by the Panchanad Research Institute at Guru Gorakhnath Government PG College on the theme, ‘The illusion surrounding youth power’ here on Thursday. Dr Vivek Saini, principal of the college, presided over the event.
Dr Mudita Verma, in-charge of the women wing of the institute, and Dr Jagbir Singh, president of Panchanad Research Institute, Hisar, were also present on the occasion.
“In the race for likes, followers, and virtual validation, the youth are becoming detached from their goals and real-life values. This illusion is not limited to the digital world but has spread to every aspect of life,” she said, adding that it has overshadowed true knowledge and skills.
Prof Dharmani said India had the largest youth population in the world and it was essential to make them aware of values and ethics.
She emphasised that if the youth moved forward with a positive mindset, they could become a blessing for the country and society.
The V-C said education should enlighten individuals about truth, wisdom, and practical abilities. “Thus, the youth should stay alert against those who try to mislead them for selfish motives. The pursuit of wealth and comfort often traps the youth in an illusion,” she said. Vivek Saini remarked that the youth of the nation were full of energy and enthusiasm and should channel their power toward building the nation.
