A-24-year-old youth was beaten to death near Flora Chowk in Sector 29, Panipat.

The deceased has been identified as Firdaus of Bihar.

The police have nabbed Narender, alias Shishu, of Sewah village in Panipat. He was arrested from near Nangal Khedi village on Sunday. Sub-Inspector Subhash said the accused was produced before the court, which sent him to judicial custody.

Complainant Asad said his brother used to live in Vikas Nagar. He said on May 24, Firdaus went to his in-laws near Flora Chowk. He along with his friend Shahnawaj went to the ground.

He said Narender, owner of a grocery store, took off the cap from Firdaus’ head and wore it. When Firdaus asked for it, Narender threw it away. On being opposed, Narender brought a stick from inside the shop and hit him on the head. As a result, Firdaus fell down.

He said after getting a call from his friend, he rushed his brother to the Civil Hospital, where doctors referred him to the PGIMS, Rohtak. Firdaus succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
