The police said Mukesh was having an affair with a girl from his neighbourhood, which displeased her family. Following a complaint by Mukesh’s brother, Rajendra, the police registered a case of murder against the girl’s relatives. Mukesh’s family said he had been in contact with the girl for several years. They said her family proceeded with her marriage to someone else on June 25. Recently, the girl had returned and Mukesh began loitering outside her house. When the girl’s father and brother objected to his behaviour on Wednesday evening, an altercation ensued.

The police said Mukesh was sleeping outside his house with his family members on Wednesday night, and when they woke up, they found he had been fatally attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. Following statements from the deceased’s relatives, the police have initiated action and handed over the body for postmortem.
