Youth Parliament held at Shahabad college
The 17th Youth Parliament was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, at Markanda National College, Shahabad, on Saturday.
Dr Shalini Sharma, the convener of the event, said 55 students enacted parliamentary proceedings, assuming various roles. The 55-minute-long session included oath-taking ceremony, introduction of new ministers, question hour, calling of attention motion, message from the Rajya Sabha and discussion on various issues.
After the discussions, the Population Control Bill-2025 was presented and passed by a majority vote. A representative in the Youth Parliament also raised the issue of establishing an IIT in Kurukshetra, a matter recently presented in the Lok Sabha by MP Naveen Jindal, who was the chief guest at the event. The MP praised the enthusiasm of the students, emphasising the importance of understanding parliamentary procedures.
He announced a grant of Rs 11 lakh for the construction of a classroom and establishment of a gymnasium in the college. Yashpal Wadhwa, president of the College Management Committee, assured that more facilities would be provided to students and efforts would be made towards their bright future.
