Youth should stay away from drugs and engage in sports: Dhankar
On the call of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the ongoing Cyclothon 2.0 carrying the message and pledge of Drug-Free Haryana entered Jhajjar district on Saturday.
As it crossed into the district from Gurugram, the journey received an enthusiastic welcome at Badsa village, led by former Agriculture Minister and BJP National Secretary Om Prakash Dhankar, along with hundreds of dignitaries, district administration officials, international and national athletes, youth and local leaders.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya and DCP Logesh Kumar P formally welcomed the cyclothon. DC Dahiya said the district administration was running the Drug-Free Haryana campaign with active public participation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhankar administered an anti-drug oath to the public present at the cyclothon welcome event.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that those who walk with resolve in life move forward. Life is built on small resolutions. If the youth receive the right values early in life, they lead a good life,” he added.
He urged people to take a pledge through the cyclothon to root out drugs and make the state drug-free. Dhankar praised Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for launching such a massive initiative like the cyclothon, which is progressing meaningfully toward its goal.
Dhankar called on the youth to focus their energy on positive pursuits stating that the The youth should avoid the path of addiction and channel their energy into meaningful work to build their future. Staying away from drugs and engaging in sports leads to both physical and mental development. Sports play a crucial role in staying healthy.
He shared that there are around 41 registered wrestling arenas (akhadas) in Jhajjar where athletes are working hard.
"Today, sports are a great strength. They provide the right direction in life. The youth from the district are reaching the Olympics through sports and inspiring society to stay away from drugs and succeed in life,” he added.
He said the path of sports leads young people to great heights.
Dr Ashok Kumar Verma, leading the cyclothon, said the journey was receiving overwhelming support from people across regions. It is progressing from city to city, village to village, fulfilling its objective.
After delivering the message of a Drug-Free Haryana in Badsa, Dhankar flagged off the cyclothon. He also rode a bicycle himself to encourage the youth participating in the journey.
As the cyclists carrying the message of Drug-Free Haryana entered towns and villages of the district, they were warmly welcomed with flowers. After Badsa, the cyclothon passed through Badli, Jhajjar city, Gudha, Chamanpura, and Dighal, before entering Rohtak district.
