The Kurukshetra police have arrested a youth in the case of assault on a policeman last evening. A sub-inspector had sustained a knife injury after he was attacked by some miscreants near the SYL Canal in the Jyotisar area of Kurukshetra.

The inured SI was identified as Prince Kumar, the incharge of the Jyotisar Police Post. The suspects are Pradeep, Kaku, Vansh and Sonu. While Sonu has been arrested, the remaining are absconding.

In his complaint, SI Prince stated that on a tip-off that there were some miscreants carrying arms at the SYL Canal in Jyotisar, he reached the spot with an SI and a head constable. They saw five-six youths standing there.

“As I approached them, they attacked me. Pradeep stabbed me in the stomach, while Kaku, Vansh and Sonu also attacked me. Meanwhile, Pradeep also stole my police identity card and Rs 2,900 from my pocket,” he said.

As per the complaint, as the other policemen and people came forward, the miscreants fled from there on their two-wheelers.

He was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Civil Hospital in Kurukshetra from where he was taken to a private hospital.

A case was registered against the four identified youths at the Kurukshetra University police station.

CIA-2 incharge Mohan Lal informed that the accused, Sonu, will be produced in a court on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said, “One accused Sonu has been arrested in connection with the case and efforts are being made to nab the remaining accused too. Their backgrounds are being checked.”
