After a 23-year-old student from Khalsa College, Patiala, was arrested in Kaithal, Haryana, for allegedly spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the Patiala police also started a probe into the matter.

Identified as Devinder Singh Dhillon, he was a student of Masters in Political Science (first year). College authorities said that the student used to miss classes and was missing from college for almost a month. “He never raised any suspicion but had missed some classes and a few exams recently. A police team had also visited the college to gather some information about him, which was provided to them,” said one of the faculty members of the college.

Devinder had recently visited Pakistan via the Kartarpur Corridor in November and reportedly shared sensitive information, including photos of the Patiala military cantonment, with ISI officers.

“He had also uploaded images of guns on social media and had allegedly received money from his Pakistan-based handlers. We are examining the details shared with us by the Haryana police. We have asked a few of his acquaintances to help us in the investigation,” said a senior police official.

Meanwhile, the Haryana and Patiala police will also verify Devinder's bank transactions and his contacts in Patiala to know more about the accused.

Dhillon’s arrest comes just a week after two spies were arrested in Malerkotla for their alleged links to a Pakistani official posted at the High Commission in Delhi. These arrests come amid heightened intelligence alertness in wake of the India-Pakistan ceasefire, almost a week back.
