Under pressure from Sikh leaders insisting upon upholding the conduct, Golden Temple head granthi Giani Raghbir Singh on Monday withdrew a petition against the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

He filed petition in the court apprehending that his services as head granthi could be terminated.

In his plea, he stated that due to excessive politicisation in the Sikh body, he was removed as Akal Takht Jathedar on March 7. Now, he was again being targeted and feared that he may receive the same fate.

Notably, he took this decision a day before the first hearing of the case scheduled on July 1. He filed the plea on June 6.

Along with Giani Raghbir Singh, Giani Sultan Singh was also removed as Takht Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar on March 7. Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj was appointed Akal Takht’s officiating Jathedar.
