Chamba, July 23
One person was killed, while another injured after the car in which they were travelling veered off the road and plunged into the Ravi near Durgethi village in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba.
The accident took place 45 km from the district headquarters on National Highway 154A.
The deceased was identified as Daud, a resident of the Hardaspura locality in the district. The injured was identified as Sahil of the Pakka Tala locality in Chamba town. He is being treated at Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba.
Chamba Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Yadav said the incident took place on Monday night, when the duo was travelling from Chamba to Bharmour. Daud, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle near Durgethi, causing it to veer off the road.
Passers-by noticed the car in the river early Tuesday morning and alerted locals, who then called the police.
With the help of locals, the police rescued the Sahil and took him to a hospital. The police while investigating the site of the accident recovered Daud’s body.
SP Yadav said a case had been registered and further investigations were on. The body of the deceased was handed over to the family after conducting an autopsy.
