10 disaster-hit families urge Nurpur SDM for possession of land allotted by state government
Their houses were destroyed due to a massive landslide, subsidence in 2019
After running from pillar to post, 10 of 17 disaster-hit families of Ward No. 9 in Nurpur town met with local SDM Arun Sharma today and requested him to provide them the possession of the land allotted by the state government. These families were rendered homeless due to a massive landslide and subsidence in 2019.
After six years, the Deputy Commissioner had on July 15 this year allotted a four-marla plot each to all 17 affected families at Rampuri in the town. The local revenue authorities had provided the physical possession of plots to seven families while the remaining 10 families were left in the lurch.
Led by Shivani Sharma, councillor of Ward No. 9, the 10 affected families met with the SDM and appealed to him to provide the physical possession of the land allotted to them. These families had yesterday met with the Kangra Deputy Commission, who had directed the SDM, Nurpur, to take necessary action to give them the possession of allotted land. The SDM directed the Naib Tehsildar concerned, who immediately summoned the Kanungo and told him to take appropriate action.
Meanwhile, the affected families threatened that they would launch an agitation if the Revenue Department didn’t provide the possession of land to them after undertaking demarcation. The SDM said that the affected families had met him in this regard and seven of them had already been given the possession of land. “Some persons have procured a stay from court on the land allotted to these families. I have ordered the authorities concerned to take appropriate action, conduct a spot inspection and submit a report to me for further action,” he added.
