The Dehradun police today arrested eight youths while the Sirmaur police arrested two from Paonta Sahib for yesterday’s incident when the remnants of a bovine species were found scattered on the Yamuna riverbed on the Uttarakhand border, triggering protests.
SSP, Dehradun, Ajay Singh was coordinating operations with the Sirmaur police. He told mediapersons at Paonta Sahib this evening that the Dehradun police arrested eight youths from the Sahaspur police station area. He said that weapons used in the crime were also seized and those arrested included Sadiq against whom 11 such cases were registered in various police stations.
“The arrested youths were coordinating with three other suspects wanted in cases involving bovines elsewhere,” said the Dehradun SSP.
SP, Sirmaur, Nischint Negi said that Shahnawaz (40) and Irshad (60), both residents of Manpur Devra village in Paonta Sahib, were arrested from their village. He added that one more accused found involved in the incident, who was on the run, would also be arrested soon.
The officers said that the mischief was aimed at disrupting communal harmony in the area. A case had been registered against the accused, Negi added.
