A team led by Tehbazaari Inspector Jyoti Prakash conducted two rounds of inspections to identify illegal vendors. Upon inquiry, officials found that these vendors lacked proper licences and subsequently removed them, confiscating their goods. Prakash stated that most of these vendors hail from states like Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

He emphasised that unauthorised vendors frequently operate in Shimla’s markets, causing congestion. To address this, weekly inspections are conducted every Sunday. “These vendors create unnecessary crowding, which can delay emergency responses, such as during fires or medical crises,” Prakash said. Additionally, a mock drill was conducted in Lower Bazaar to assess emergency response times.
