A team of veterinary scientists from CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University organised six infertility treatment camps in Chamba district, benefiting more than 100 livestock keepers.
The camps were organised in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry at Holi, Lamu, Runukothi, Satli, Kugti and Sachuin villages of Bharmour subdivision under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) project. Its objective is to examine the status of infertility in bovines.
Prof Madhumeet Singh, team leader and head of the department of veterinary gynaecology and obstetrics, said more than 100 cows, reared by farmers, were examined in the camps with main emphasis on recording their reproductive status and abnormalities.
The scientists collected blood samples to study their biochemical and hormonal profile and their genital discharge samples for a detailed diagnosis of uterine infections. Faecal samples were also collected to study the parasitic load in the bovines. Medicines were distributed among the farmers for free.
Prof Ashok Kumar Sarial, Vice-Chancellor, said earlier, 267 camps were organised in the state. Also, a new RKVY project worth Rs9 lakh had been sanctioned recently for these camps to be organised.
Besides Prof Madhumeet Singh, the team members included Dr Pravesh Kumar and Vijay Rana.
