The Chamba Women and Child Development Department hosted a district-level event on Saturday to celebrate International Women’s Day and the 10th anniversary of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Shivani Mehla, was the chief guest at the event. Addressing the gathering, Mehla said International Women’s Day not only serves as a celebration of women’s struggles, achievements and contributions, but also as a reminder much remains to be done to achieve women’s empowerment. “A woman possesses the power to nurture and strengthen relationships,” she remarked.

District Programme Officer Kamal Kishore Sharma spoke about the significance of Women’s Day, celebrated every year on March 8, as a means to raise awareness about women’s rights and to honour their invaluable contributions.
