Eleven schools of Solan district have received certification in the green category for the year 2024-25 by the Centre for Science and Environment, Delhi. This comprises eight government and three private schools.
Deputy Director Elementary Education Solan Mohinder Chand Pirta informed that details of 101 schools from Solan district were uploaded on the website of the Green Schools Programme highlighting their environmental conservation related endeavour. Out of this, 11 schools of district Solan have been certified in Green category on the basis of environmental audit conducted by the Center for Science and Environment.
The Green Schools Programme is an ‘inspection’ or ‘survey’ on its environmental practices which is also referred to as environmental auditing. It encompasses various aspects like use of water, energy, land, air and waste in the school and how they are managed.
Pirta said that Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Nalagarh, GSSS Manjholi , GSSS Bagheri, GSSS Bhatia, GSSS Bohli, Government High School Kanah, Kendriya Vidyalaya Air Force Station Kasauli, Pinegrove School Dharampur, International School Kasauli, Shivalik Valley School Nalagarh and Government Primary School Jalana have been included in the Green category.
Principal, headmaster, teacher and two school children of the 11 schools included in the Green category will be honoured on February 4 at India Habitat Centre, Delhi.
In December, details of all the schools of the state were sought and this included the report of 101 schools from Solan district which were uploaded on the website. These schools are granted Orange, Yellow and Green certificates based on the projects submitted by these schools highlighting their work in environmental conservation.
