Nurpur, February 26
In order to sensitise students about the prompt first-aid required by a road accident victim, the Road Safety Club of Government Arya College, Nurpur, organised a workshop on Monday. Around 110 students attended this workshop. Club coordinator Dr Daljeet Singh, along with other members, organised this workshop.
The main emphasis was on first-aid, golden hour and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Programme expert Dr Tushar Saini from Nurpur civil hospital demonstrated the manner in which accident victims should be handled in case of an emergency.
While detailing on CPR, he said that one has to talk to the patient while lying down, then one has to feel his breathing speed and heartbeat and later the process has to be started using both hands. He said golden hour refers to the first hour after any accident and its objective was to stop bleeding, help the patient breathe and arrange an ambulance for taking the victim to the nearest health institution, where a qualified professional could start the treatment.
He said that the CPR was an emergency lifesaving procedure. Another expert, Abhishek Kumar, told the students about drug prevention, its causes, problems and increasing addiction among students. He also provided information related to hepatitis and HIV.
College principal Dr Anil Thakur urged the students to learn first-aid techniques and help the victims during medical emergencies. On this occasion, Prof Sanjay Kumar Jasrotia, Prof Seema Ohri, Dr Anil Kumar, Dr Sohan Kumar, Prof Sujit Kumar and others were present.
