Govt will soon fill 13,000 teaching posts to strengthen edu sector, says Himachal Dy CM

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Friday presided over the 20th Foundation Day celebrations of Vijay Memorial College of Education at Barsu in the Balh Assembly constituency of Mandi district. The occasion was marked by the inauguration of a new academic unit and the foundation laying of a student hostel on the campus.

The ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Deputy CM, followed by the felicitation of meritorious students for their academic excellence.

In his address, Agnihotri underlined the state government’s priority on education and healthcare, noting that these reforms have propelled Himachal Pradesh into the top five states in the country for education. He highlighted that the state, which once ranked 21st, now stands third nationally in education rankings under the present Congress government. Announcing further reforms, he declared that the government would soon fill 13,000 teaching posts, thereby strengthening educational infrastructure across the state.

Acknowledging the contribution of private institutions in rural areas, he commended their role in spreading the light of knowledge. Congratulating the college on its milestone, he encouraged students to move ahead with hard work, discipline and dedication.

In recognition of the students’ cultural presentations, the Deputy CM announced a grant of Rs 51,000 from his discretionary fund. He also joined a plantation drive on the campus.

A touching moment of the day came with the screening of a tribute video honouring Prof Simmi Agnihotri, his late wife, for her contributions to education, which received heartfelt applause and remembrance. College chairman Gaurav Marwah expressed gratitude to the Deputy CM while presenting an overview of the institution’s journey and achievements.
