Former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar, who is also the chairman of the VMRT hospital, inaugurated the new ICU. He said now the number of ICU beds in the VMRT hospital had gone up to 43. He said it was the first hospital in the state equipped with 43-bed ICU.

In the past three years Vivekananda Medical Institute has emerged the best in neurosurgery, general neuro ailments and cardiology, he said. “The institute excels in treating bone and joint-related ailments and is considered as the best in the state.
