14-month-old gets cochlear implant
The Department of ENT at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, hosted a three-day cochlear implant workshop ‘Cochlear Brahmos’ from July 9 to 11.
The prestigious event drew eminent ENT surgeons and cochlear implant experts from across the nation, marking a transformative milestone in auditory healthcare.
During the workshop, three intricate cochlear implant surgeries were performed, exemplifying the precision, skill and interdisciplinary synergy that define the medical college’s excellence.
Two patients received bilateral implants, while one underwent a unilateral procedure, showcasing tailored surgical approaches to individual needs.
The crowning achievement of ‘Cochlear Brahmos’ was the successful implantation in a 14-month-old child — the youngest recipient of a cochlear implant in North India to date.
The landmark case represents a beacon of hope for early intervention and life-changing auditory rehabilitation in infants with profound hearing loss.
Beyond its clinical impact, the workshop served as a vibrant academic platform. Live surgeries, interactive lectures and case-based discussions enriched the learning experience for postgraduate students and ENT professionals.
The surgeries were done by the team of ENT surgeons led by Dr Munish Saroch, Professor and Head, Department of ENT, Dr RPGMC, Tanda.
