14 taken ill after inhaling toxic fumes in Barotiwala

Fourteen persons fell sick after a pungent solvent, methylene chloride, accidentally spilled on the floor at Nikvin Healthcare in Jharmajri, Barotiwala, around 11 am today.
Company director Dheeraj Gupta said, “The spillage occurred when the solvent drum used for coating tablets was being taken to the manufacturing area by an employee, fell down accidentally.” Some workers developed nausea, while some suffered unconsciousness due to inhalation of the pungent chemical.
After giving first-aid at the plant, four were admitted at ESIC, Katha, while others were taken to Baddi Civil Hospital. Ten of them were shifted to PGI, Chandigarh. Their condition was stable and their health was being monitored. A police team also reached the premises to examine the case.
