The Nurpur police have arrested a couple allegedly involved in drug peddling on Saturday evening.
Acting on inputs, a police team raided a house at Chhanni village and seized 15.19 gm of heroin and Rs 24,700 drug money from the possession of Parshotam Lal, alias Tona, and his
wife Savita.
The couple has been booked under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) at the Damtal police station.
The duo was produced before the court on Sunday, which remanded them in the police custody.
Nurpur SP Ashok Ratan said after conducting preliminary investigation, they found out that the accused were habitual offenders and had earlier committed offences like thefts, drug peddling and bootlegging.
He said Parshotam had a theft case registered against him in Nurpur on March 16, 2009, two cases under the NDPS Act in Pathankot and Dinanagar in August 2009, and November 2014, respectively.
Ratan said Savita had been arrested twice by the Indora police for peddling drugs.
“The first case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against Savita on November 2, 2018. After getting bail, she was again caught with contraband by the Indora police on December 28, 2018,” added the SP.
