Mandi, November 25

A local court has sent 15 persons to three-day police remand and nine others to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the cases of assault on an elderly woman and a retired teacher in the name of a deity at Samahal village in the Sarkaghat Assembly segment of Mandi district.

On November 6, these persons had assaulted the elderly woman, taking her to be a sorceress. They blackened her face, garlanded her with shoes and paraded her in the village. They also assaulted a retired teacher, Jai Gopal, in the name of the deity.

Mandi SP Gurdev Chand Sharma said that all accused were produced before court, which remanded 15 of them in three-day police custody and other nine in 14-day judicial custody.
