150 stranded tourists rescued from Yulla Kanda trek in Kinnaur

Around 150 tourists stranded on the Yulla Kanda trek route in Kinnaur district were safely rescued in a joint operation by police and local residents, officials said today.

According to reports, the tourists from different parts of the country had visited the Lord Sri Krishna Temple in Yulla Kanda on the occasion of Janamashtami. While returning, they were unable to cross a nallah as the route was completely blocked due to overflowing water following heavy rainfall. This left the group stranded along the trek.

On receiving information, a police team from Tapri Police Station rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation with the assistance of locals. The operation lasted several hours, during which all stranded tourists were evacuated and shifted to safer locations.

Kinnaur SP Abhishek Shekhar said the blockage of the trek route due to continuous rainfall led to the incident. He confirmed that every stranded person was rescued without any casualty. The SP further urged pilgrims and trekkers to avoid visiting Yulla Kanda during heavy rains and to plan visits only in favourable weather conditions to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, several vehicles were damaged in the Nigulsari region after being hit by shooting stones triggered by rain. Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries was reported.
