The Fisheries Department of Himachal Pradesh, under the Mandi Fisheries Division, successfully released 15,000 brown trout fingerlings into the Lambadag river at Barot in Mandi district yesterday. This significant initiative was aimed at enhancing trout fishing tourism in the region, boosting the income of local anglers, and promoting freshwater trout farming.

The event was attended by various officials, including Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan, Padhar SDM Surjit Singh, Padhar Block Development Officer Vinay Chauhan, Pradhan of Barot Gram Panchayat Ramesh Thakur, Mandi Assistant Director of Fisheries Neetu Singh and Fisheries Officer Vimal Guleria.

The fingerlings were produced at the government-operated trout farm in Barot. The department’s efforts focus on improving the trout fishery in the area, with the long-term goal of making the region a popular destination for trout angling tourism. The initiative is also expected to contribute to the local economy by creating employment opportunities and enhancing the livelihood of the fishing community.

During the event, the DC also visited the Government Trout Farm in Barot and took stock of the ongoing trout farming activities. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to the sustainable development of the region’s fisheries sector and its potential for eco-tourism.
