The Sujanpur Assembly constituency in Hamirpur has seen remarkable development during the Congress rule while the previous BJP government had ignored it, said Vikramaditya Singh, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, while addressing a public meeting at Lag Devi in Sujanpur on Thursday. He added that development works worth Rs 164 crore had been completed in the past two and a half years and new development projects worth Rs 183 crore were in progress.
Vikramaditya said that recently approved works, including road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and NABARD schemes, totaling Rs 83 crore would be executed soon. He added that link roads to remote villages and the construction of government buildings were the major focus and Rs 63 crore was being spent on building government infrastructure.
The minister said that though the state was facing a financial crisis, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was ensuring all-round development without aid from the Central Government. He also addressed issues of local connectivity, those relating to the National Highway No-3 and the welfare of soldiers and ex-servicemen in Hamirpur.
Vikramaditya underlined government efforts to promote sports among the youth, including the sanction of Rs 15 lakh for a playground at Lag Devi. Sujanpur MLA Ranjit Singh thanked the minister for rapid progress on long-pending projects, especially for improving connectivity to distant villages through new roads and bridges. Senior officials of the PWD and the local administration were present on the occasion.
