On September 17-18, a massive landslide struck Bachwai panchayat in Sulh Assembly constituency, damaging 14 houses and leaving several families stranded. Soldiers of the 16th Garhwal Rifles swiftly reached the site, evacuating villagers to safety and providing first aid, food, water and other essentials. They also recovered valuables and household items from damaged houses and returned them to affected families.
Dr Bhardwaj lauded the battalion’s “indomitable courage and tireless service,” stating that their actions not only saved lives but also boosted the morale of disaster-hit residents. “Their work truly reflects the Army’s motto — Service is the Supreme Being,” he said.
Local BJP MLA and former Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar also appreciated the unit’s efforts, noting that the Garhwal Rifles extended timely relief not only in Bachwai but also in other affected villages of his constituency.
