Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal said under the nationwide Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, conducted from September 17 to October 2, as many as 1,807 health camps were organised across the district. These camps were held at various health and wellness centres, Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Civil Hospitals, model health institutions and the Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Chamba, along with five multi-specialty camps.
The primary objective of the campaign was to provide free health screening for women and girls, especially those aged 15 to 49 years, for conditions such as anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, breast cancer, sickle cell anemia and other non-communicable diseases. Camps were organised at all levels — from sub-health centres to the medical college — ensuring maximum public participation.
The campaign was inaugurated on September 17 at Civil Hospital Kihar by Chief Medical Officer Dr Bipen Thakur.
During the 15-day campaign, screening was carried out for 15,992 men and 1,05,036 women for hypertension, 15,301 men and 93,070 women for diabetes, and 11,023 men and 96,835 women for mouth, chest and cervical cancer. Additionally, 4,221 pregnant women were examined, 76,084 women were screened for anaemia and 13,187 men and 1,02,162 women for tuberculosis. Furthermore, 1995 Ni-Kshay Mitras were registered, and 390 children were vaccinated.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, 11 new cards were issued during the campaign, while 184 units of blood were donated through organized blood donation camps.
At the Adarsh Health Institution in Sahoo, Chamba MLA Neeraj Nayyar attended the multi-specialty camp, appreciating the health department’s efforts. Dr. Bipen Thakur advised the public to undergo regular health check-ups, adopt a balanced diet by reducing oil and salt intake by 10%, consume fresh vegetables, and engage in daily exercise, yoga, and meditation.
Despite heavy rains and poor road conditions, health department officials and workers conducted outreach camps in remote areas, ensuring that healthcare services reached every corner of the district, a commendable step towards building a healthy women, empowered family.
