1989 batch Murthy takes charge as CAG
Himachal Pradesh cadre IAS officer of the 1989 batch K Sanjay Murthy on Thursday took oath and charge as the next Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
At a ceremony held in the Ganatantra Mandap of Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu administered Sanjay Murthy the oath as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
Murthy will be India’s 30th CAG, an institution with pre-Independence roots. He will succeed Girish Chandra Murmu, whose tenure as CAG ended on Wednesday.
Murthy’s current posting was as Secretary, Department of Higher Education and his tenure was to end on December 31, 2024.
Murthy has a degree in engineering and has worked in Himachal Pradesh for nearly 13 years. He was Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation MD; Secretary, primary, higher and technical education and principal secretary, transport and urban development in the state.
In 2014, he was on deputation to the Centre as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Before joining as Secretary, Higher Education, he headed NBCC (India) Limited, formerly known as National Buildings Construction Corporation, a public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
