2 Chamba girls earn spots in state U-23 cricket team
Nancy Sharma and Kashika Thakur, two talented young cricketers from Chamba district, have earned spots on Himachal Pradesh’s under-23 One-Day Women’s Cricket Team. Both players are currently showcasing their skills in the Women’s under-19 One Day Tournament organised by the BCCI.
In their first match on Wednesday, Himachal Pradesh’s team secured a victory against Arunachal Pradesh. They will soon face Assam, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Hyderabad in the coming matches.
The selection of Kashika and Nancy has sparked excitement in the Chamba district, with the Chamba District Cricket Association and local sports fans offering their best wishes to the players and the entire team.
Both players earned their positions in the 15-member squad through consistent performances in previous tournaments and an impressive showing at the selection camp. Local cricket officials, including Kuldeep Thakur, Amit Kumar, Harmeet Bhatiani, Vinod, Gaurav Bakshi, Devendra, Sanjay Awasthi, Hameed Khan, Kishan Kumar, Sunil, Mithun Thakur, Ashok, Antariksh, Imran and Manuj Sharma, have all praised their achievements and wished them continued success.
Officials highlighted that Chamba is excelling in various aspects of cricket, producing not only outstanding players but also skilled coaches, match referees and scorers who are trusted by the HPCA and BCCI. To support the growth of cricket, the HPCA operates four sub-centres in Bargah, Haripur, Mehla and Banikhet, nurturing young talent across the region.
The association remains confident that Chamba’s budding cricketers will reach greater heights, bringing pride to the district. Officials also encouraged other aspiring female cricketers to work hard and strive for success.
