A two-day CBSE capacity-building programme on “Strategies of Assessment and Evaluation Practices”, aimed at enhancing the assessment and evaluation skills of educators, concluded on Saturday at Army Public School, Dagshai.

St Bir International School, Baddi, principal Ranjana Bhardwaj and MRA DAV School, Solan, principal Masooma Singha deliberated upon the theme as resource persons for the event.

The session, which saw the participation of teachers from various institutions, provided valuable insights into the evolving framework of assessment in schools, focusing on the difference between assessment and evaluation and exploring their fundamental objectives.

Productive discussions were held on key elements of the assessment structure, emphasising the importance of clarity and consistency in evaluating students.

The participants delved into the concept of periodic tests and their role in the internal assessment.

They were equipped on preparing blueprints and question papers for various subjects. Educators were also familiarised with various strategies across different types of assessments, enabling them to enhance the effectiveness of student evaluations.

“The programme highlighted the purpose of multiple assessments, including periodic tests, student portfolios and subject enrichment activities. These approaches help in creating a comprehensive and inclusive assessment system,” said Singha.

Participants were introduced to the co-scholastic activities as per the remodelled structure of assessment, emphasising their importance in holistic student development.

An in-depth understanding was provided regarding the format of the report card for Class IX, along with the differences between the report card formats for Classes IX and X.

The programme also focused on making educators aware of the latest circulars and updates from the CBSE while ensuring that they remain aligned with the evolving education policies.

The session equipping the educators with the knowledge and skills to refine their assessment practices and affectively cater to the academic needs of the students. The event concluded with an interactive session where participants dwelt upon their experiences.

“This capacity building initiative is a step in promoting effective and dynamic assessment strategies within the CBSE framework, ultimately ensuring the holistic development of students,” said Bhardwaj.
