2-day film festival concludes with pledge to save wetlands

A two-day ‘Wetlands Film Festival’ concluded today with a pledge to save the wetlands. The festival featured around 20 films focusing on wetlands, water, environment and disasters, and saw participation of students from 30 schools in Shimla as well as universities and colleges across the state. A painting competition was also organised.

The children expressed their interest in wetlands and environmental conservation through the films and noted that they experienced a unique perspective through this medium for the first time.

IAS officer K.K. Pant who presided over the event praised the film festival for its role in environmental conservation and suggested that similar film festivals should be considered for all universities and colleges in the state. Various speakers from across the state sharef their knowledge on wetlands and environmental protection with the students.

In the painting competition, Kamla of Government High School, Vikas Nagar, Shimla, was adjudged first; Abhishek Kumar of Government Senior Secondary School, Chhota Shimla, secured second place, and Shefali, a student of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, achieved third place.

Suresh C. Attri, Joint Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE), thanked the chief guest, speakers and participants.

The programme concluded with the chief guest administering an oath to save wetlands and presenting awards to the winners of the art competition.
