The murder of a 27-year-old youth Rakesh, alias Gaggi, in a barber’s shop located at Khwaja Basal village in Una district on Sunday, appears to be the result of a gang war with two persons taking responsibility of the killing on their social media accounts, while two others vowing to avenge the killing.

Two unidentified gunmen had shot dead Rakesh, who, along with his colleagues, had just arrived at a barber shop and was grooming his hair. The assailants fired about seven to eight rounds on the victim before firing in the air during their escape on a motorcycle. They did not fire a single shot at Rakesh’s accomplices. The victim was a resident of Upper Arniala in Una city.

The shop is located on the Chandigarh-Dharamsala highway, about 7 km from Una.

It is reported that two gangsters, known as Ladi Kumar and Venkat Garg Narayangarh, have posted on their social media accounts, taking responsibility for killing Rakesh. They have also tagged another gangster Mani Rana from Una, who is currently in jail.

Meanwhile, in a social media post today, another gangster Babbi Rana, referring himself to the Bachittar Gang, has vowed to kill all those who were associated with the killing of Rakesh, alias Gaggi. It is also reported that Rakesh had a number of criminal cases registered against him in Himachal Pradesh.
