2-km of trouble: Haraghat to Kuhat road a hazardous stretch
The crucial road connecting Morni in Haryana’s Panchkula district to Pachhad subdivision in Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh, via Haraghat-Jamun Ki Ser, has deteriorated to a dangerous state, causing immense hardship for locals and travellers.
Falling under the jurisdiction of the PWD’s 12th Circle, Nahan and maintained by the Sarahan Division’s Gagal Shikour Sub-Division, the stretch has been battered by over a month of heavy rainfall. From Haraghat to Kuhat village, a 2-km stretch has become riddled with deep potholes and erosion so severe that drivers can no longer tell where the road ends and the craters begin. In some portions, rainwater has carved a deep trench right through the middle, forcing vehicles to navigate dangerously close to the edges.
Residents say they have repeatedly urged the Public Works Department to carry out urgent repairs, but no action has been taken so far. Small vehicle owners — particularly those driving cars, motorcycles and scooters — are bearing the brunt of the road’s condition, with daily travel turning into a slow and risky ordeal.
The road eventually connects Jamun Ki Ser to the state highway at Lavasa Chowki-Dhangyar-Pinjore, but that link, too, is in disrepair. The stretch from Rohi village to Thakurdwara is marred by deep potholes, making driving hazardous, especially in the ongoing monsoon season.
When contacted, Sarahan PWD Executive Engineer Dilip Kaundal assured that the road would be repaired soon, adding that machinery would be deployed to restore the surface in the coming days.
