Two soldiers from Himachal Pradesh lost their lives and another was seriously injured in a horrific road accident near Chamkaur Sahib in Ropar district in Punjab on Sunday night. The soldiers were returning home from Ferozepur on leave to celebrate Karva Chauth festival with their families.
The deceased have been identified as Kuldeep Kumar of Kangra district and Dharmesh Singh of Mandi district, while the injured soldier, Ashish from Sirmaur, is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chamkaur Sahib.
All three soldiers were serving with the Army in Ferozepur and were reportedly travelling in a Maruti Fronx car when it collided head-on with a Bolero pickup. The impact was so severe that both vehicles were extensively damaged, resulting into the deaths of two soldiers.
The pickup driver, identified as Prince, sustained minor injuries and claimed that the car came from the wrong side before the collision.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
