As part of the Government of India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative and in celebration of the 78th Raising Day of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), a team of 1 HP Air Squadron NCC, Kullu, embarked on a journey titled ‘Sankalp — a Cycling Expedition-cum-Motivational Outreach Programme’. The expedition, flagged off on Sunday by Deputy Commissioner Torul S Raveesh from Dhalpur Ground, will pass from Kullu to Shimla via the challenging Jalori Pass and conclude on November 29.

The team comprises six staff members and 20 cadets, including 10 girl cadets, representing diverse institutions across the state. Their mission is not merely to conquer the rugged terrain but to spread awareness and motivation among young students in rural areas.

Commanding Officer Wing Commander Kunal Sharma highlighted the dual significance of the event: “On NCC Day, we are proud to launch ‘Sankalp’ that will cover nearly 30 to 40 educational institutions along the route. Our aim is to inform students about the various entry schemes into the armed forces and to provide career guidance after Class XII and graduation.”

He further said that during his tenure in the valley, he observed a lack of awareness among students regarding opportunities in the defence services. The outreach programme, therefore, seeks to bridge this gap by motivating youth to adopt a disciplined lifestyle, embrace fitness and steer clear of social evils such as drug abuse. The expedition is expected to reach Shimla on November 29, marking the culmination of a week-long journey filled with endurance, learning and inspiration.

The flag-off ceremony was marked by cultural performances. The band of La Montessori School, Kullu, enthralled the audience with a musical display, while a karate demonstration showcased the strength and discipline that NCC embodies.

The expedition stands as a symbol of determination and service, blending physical challenge with social responsibility. By cycling across mountains and valleys, these cadets are not only testing their resilience but also carrying forward the NCC’s legacy of nation-building, discipline and youth empowerment.
