2,000 students, officials take part in Anti-Chitta Walkathon in Rohru
Reiterate pledge to work for a drug-free society
Over 2,000 students of 12 schools and three colleges along with their parents, department officials, local organisations as well as local people participated in the Anti-Chitta Awareness Walkathon organised at Rohru in Shimla district today. SDM, Rohru, Dharmesh Kumar led the campaign.
The walkathon kicked off from the Ramleela Ground, Rohru, and concluded at the Indira Gandhi Outdoor Stadium. The participants made people aware of the harmful effects of drugs. They also reiterated the pledge to work for a drug-free society.
The SDM said that the fight against a social evil like ‘chitta’ could not be won by administrative efforts alone and the active participation of every segment of society was essential for its success. “Enthusiasm and awareness shown by children and the people of Rohru is a significant step towards achieving the goal of drug-free Himachal,” he added.
He said that the number of cases being registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were on the rise in Rohru. Therefore, it was high time to save the younger generation from becoming a victim of drug abuse. He urged children to not fall into the trap of ‘chitta’. He said that there was need to help the victims of drug abuse to overcome this vice.
Various cultural performances were presented on the occasion to spread awareness among the youth. The SDM expressed gratitude to all departments, schools, organisations and local residents, who supported the event. He appealed to them for continued cooperation in such public welfare initiatives in the future as well.
