The Kullu police have faced a significant challenge in curbing the rising menace of drug-related offences in the district this year. Kullu SP Karthikeyan Gokulachandran says that 222 cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Kullu district this year so far. The police have arrested 215 individuals, including 12 women. There were 207 Indian nationals and eight Nepalese among the arrested persons.
The police have seized 62.92 kg of charas, 934.56 grams of heroin and 1.013 kg of opium. The SP says that the situation remains concerning due to drug-related offences in the district. However the only consolation this year is that the number of NDPS Act cases are less than what registered last year, he adds.
