Shimla, July 22
A steep increase in the number of Covid cases continued with 61 new cases emerging today, taking the state’s tally to 1,725, including 10 deaths. The highest number of 23 cases were reported from Shimla, 10 from Solan, seven each from Una and Sirmaur, six from Kangra, four from Chamba, three from Mandi and one from Hamirpur.
Shimla: A total of 23 persons tested positive in Shimla district. These include 18 farm labourers, who came from from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and were engaged in grading and packaging of apple in an orchard in Mendhali village in Rohru.
Solan: Ten persons tested positive in Solan district, taking the tally to 391. Medical Officer Dr NK Gupta said among the cases was a 25-year-old man, who had come from Uttar Pradesh and was staying at Kotla Nallah in Solan town.
Sirmaur: Seven persons, including a four-month-old baby boy and a six-year-old girl, tested positive in Sirmaur district late last evening, taking the tally of positive cases to 130 in the district. In a bid to monitor the movement of migrants, the district magistrate (DM) has constituted a task force at Kala Amb and Paonta Sahib industrial areas, headed by the general manager, District Industries Centre, Nahan, and comprising block medical officers, naib tehsildars, labour officers and SHOs as members. In another development, the DM declared a containment zone from the bifurcation of Bali-Koti road from the main Chowk near the police post at Shillai after a resident tested positive.
2 Army men catch virus
Six persons have tested positive in Kangra, taking the number of Covid cases in the district to 359.
Those tested positive included 45-year-old woman of Panjiyala Bharu village, Baijnath. She had a travel history from Delhi. Beside, two Army personnel, at present in institutional quarantine facility at Yol, tested positive. Four persons tested positive for the infection in Chamba, taking the number of cases in the district 84.
Mandi: Three persons, including a local BJP leader, were found Covid-19 positive in Mandi district.Official said the BJP leader, who is also an advocate, had visited the DC Office building, District Courts premises, zonal hospital, a medical college and a few other places in Mandi in the past few days.
Meanwhile, a soldier was found Covid-19 positive at an Army transit camp at Dalang in tribal district of Lahaul Spiti. According to DC, Lahaul Spiti, KK Saroch, the soldier has been shifted to Army Hospital, Palampur.
CSIR-IHBT campus sealed
The CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bio-resource Technology (IHBT), Palampur, has been declared a containment zone as two of its employee tested positive. The Kangra DC declared the campus of the IHBT as containment zone as two women employees tested positive.
