Police launched a night operation against illegal mining in Paonta Sahib region. Rama Kant Thakur, DSP (Headquarters), led the operation and a quick response team (QRT) was in action between midnight and 4 am on the intervening night of October 29 and 30.
Police teams were deployed in vulnerable mining zones to intercept overloaded and unauthorised vehicles. During the intensive drive, 24 dumpers were challaned under the Motor Vehicles Act and 23 of these were impounded.
Simultaneously, the Kala Amb police challaned one vehicle while the Puruwala police filed 16 challans under the Mining Act and impounded one more vehicle engaged in the transportation of illegally mined material.
Within 48 hours, the Sirmaur police filed 42 challans under the Motor Vehicles and Mining Acts and impounded 25 dumpers.
Sirmaur SP Nishchint Singh Negi said such operations would continue with greater intensity to eliminate illegal mining and ensure strict compliance with law.
