25-year-old held for raping grandmother

In a disturbing case from Rohru subdivision of Shimla district, a 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 65-year-old grandmother, the police said on Wednesday.

According to the complaint, the elderly woman, who has been living alone since her husband’s death three years ago, alleged that on July 3, her grandson came to her home, sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident. Acting swiftly, the police registered an FIR and arrested the accused.

Rohru DSP Pranav Chauhan confirmed the arrest and said a case has been registered under Section 64(2) (rape), Section 332(b) (house trespass) and Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is underway.

The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns over rising crimes against the elderly.
