Divisional Forest Officer Ankit Singh said the department had set a target to plant over 1.5 lakh saplings of various native species during the monsoon season. He said the department had achieved about 80 per cent of the target and the rest would be accomplished in 10 days.

Singh said the purpose behind planting fruit-bearing trees was to provide food and fodder to the wildlife as monkey menace had been a major problem for farmers of the district. He added that most of the trees being planted were of broad leaf category and this was in line of transforming pine forests by broad leaf forests.
