Shimla, January 18
As many as 3,084 Covid cases were recorded in the state today, taking the tally to 248,895. Besides, five persons died of the virus (two in Shimla and one each in Mandi, Solan and Una).
The highest number of 644 cases was recorded in Shimla, followed by 594 in Kangra, 461 in Solan, 437 in Mandi, 264 in Hamirpur, 163 in Una, 137 in Sirmaur, 135 in Bilaspur, 126 in Kullu, 80 in Chamba, 34 in Kinnaur and nine in Lahaul and Spiti. The number of active cases rose 13,639 while the total deaths increased to 3,885.
Meanwhile, the positivity rate in Shimla district has surged to 25.3 per cent over the past one week, the highest in the state, and 20.7 per cent in Solan district.
21 Ambuja Cements workers infected
As many as 21 Covid cases were reported in Ambuja Cements Limited at Darlaghat in Solan district onTuesday.
SDM, Arki, Sahzad Alam said, “Our focus is on home isolation as this alone can help prevent the spread of Covid. The company staff has been directed to ensure that the infected employees and their contacts are isolated so as to avert the further spread of the virus”.
There are 15 marriages scheduled from January 22 to 24, and the district administration has directed the families to adhere to all Covid protocol.
