3-day training programme

A three-day training programme on “Promotion of Agripreneurship and Capacity Building of Rural Students in Agriculture Education” commenced at the department of business management, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. Twenty farmers from Solan and Sirmaur district attended the event. Dr KK Raina, professor and head, department of business management, said the programme was the first in the series of seven trainings being organised by the department to promote entrepreneurship in horticulture and agriculture. Dr Kapil Kathuria, coordinator of the programme, said the programme aimed at developing entrepreneurs, who could add value to the economy and create employment in the areas of agribusiness and rural enterprises. During the next three days, six technical sessions, covering topics like horticulture and floriculture-based businesses, leadership skills, business environment for agri and rural enterprises, capital budgeting and project evaluation, will be organised. The participants will also get practical exposure and an opportunity to listen to the views of entrepreneurs and bankers. VC Dr Parvinder Kaushal said such trainings would be a regular feature under the newly established Skill Development Centre at the university.

Students demand heaters on campus

SFI activists submit a memorandum to the library in-charge.

The ABVP and the SFI on Thursday submitted memorandums to the Registrar of Himachal Pradesh University and library in-charge, demanding that a kerosene heater be arranged for the students and staff. Members of the student organisations said the temperatures were freezing and they needed heaters. The university authorities had decided to stop the use of kerosene heaters.

Education standards needed to be raised, said Hamirpur DC Harikesh Meena at the annual prize distribution function of Government Senior Secondary School, Amlehar in Nadaun sub-division. He said meritorious students were provided coaching for competitive examinations under the Kayakalp programme of the district administration. Teachers and parents should identify the talent of students. Principal Anju Malhotra read out the annual report.
