3 held for brutal attack on Nurpur villager
After launching a large-scale manhunt, local police have arrested all three accused in connection with a violent assault on Karnail Singh, a resident of Banolli village under Jawali police jurisdiction in Nurpur police district. The arrests were made on Saturday evening in Gholli village, near Fatehpur.
The police said the arrested individuals have been identified as Kushal Kumar, Manmohan and Pankaj — sons of Baljeet Singh and residents of the same Banolli village. A fourth individual, Rinku, was also named among the accused.
Kiran Raj, daughter of the victim, filed a complaint with Jawali police on Friday, alleging the accused forcibly entered their home at around 10 pm on September 18 while the family was having dinner. She stated the accused began abusing her father and brother, following which Kushal Kumar and Manmohan — armed with sharp-edged weapons — launched an attack, wounding her father’s neck.
Jawali DSP Biri Singh said Karnail Singh sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at the Jawali Civil Hospital. The DSP said he was later shifted to a private hospital in Pathankot, where he remains under medical care.
Following a preliminary investigation, police registered an attempt to murder case against the assailants under Sections 109(1), 333, 118(2), 352, 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The DSP stated the motive behind the attack appears to be a long-standing land dispute between the parties. He said sharp-edged weapons used in the assault have been seized, adding the accused were produced in court and police have sought remand for further investigation.
